The Swiss Allseas group will build another platform to dismantle the engineering ship

The Swiss Allseas group has unveiled plans to build a bigger platform to dismantle its engineering ships. According to Allseas chief executive Edward Heerema, the company plans to invest $3 billion to build the new ship, which will be called "Amazing Grace" to remove the world's largest oil and gas platform. A single heavy lift on a new ship can lift a large platform, which would help lower the cost of dismantling the oil majors.

Heerema said the ship would be able to dismantle the largest platforms in Norway and Britain's Statfjord, Gullfaks and Thistle fields. Operators in Norway and Britain have contacted Allseas about the concept of dismantling all platforms. "The operators have asked us to study the technical possibilities of removing larger platforms, and we could make this amazing investment decision in three years' time."

If Allseas decides to invest, it will set a new record, with the ship lifting capacity 50 per cent higher than the previous "Pioneering Spirit", to 72,000 tonnes. The ship is 160 metres wide, about a third wider than the "Pioneering Spirit".

Allseas does not disclose potential construction yards and construction processes. The company says it is working on the internal design of the "AmazingGrace" and if all goes well, the AmazingGrace is expected to begin construction within three to four years.

Edward Heerema said it would be a larger version of the "Pioneering Spirit". "PioneeringSpirit" is currently the world's largest ship, is also the world's most sea vessel, with a total investment of nearly $3 billion cost. Construction of daewoo shipbuilding began in 2007 and delivered in 2016. The "Pioneering Spirit" is a twin hull ship with a length of 382 meters and a width of 124 meters, with 571 guests. The "Pioneering Spirit" is mainly used to dismantle and assemble offshore platforms. It is the only ship in the world that can lift and ship offshore platforms at one time, and is the most expensive offshore platform at present. The giant catamaran has been deployed in the north sea for the installation and dismantling of large offshore oil and gas platforms. It can be used in a heavy crane with 8 sets of horizontal hoisting beams, with a maximum load of 48,000 tons.
